Weather didn’t dampen spirits at Tulipmania

Wet and chilly weather failed to put a dampener on the annual Springfields Festival and Tulipmania weekend.

Despite needing coats and umbrellas, the 3,000 visitors made the most of the entertainment on offer.

David Norton, chief executive of Springfields Horticultural Society, said: “The highlight of the weekend was the spectacular display of tulips in the garden, for which we planted 10,000 extra this year.

“It looks fantastic and will still be in bloom for a little while so there’s still a chance to see it in all it’s glory.”

After a tough competition, the Tulipmania prince and princess were named as Bradley Grant and Marissa Kievietz, with their deputies Mollie Bracey and Jake Winkett.

Entertainment came from the Watoto African choir, singer Dennis Hannant, various demonstrations and children’s favourite Peppa Pig.

Sunday’s classic car show was a bit disappointing due to the weather.

Mr Norton added: “People who turned out on Sunday were fairly courageous and sadly only about half of the cars booked in turned up.”

The event raises money to keep the Springfields Festival Gardens open and free to visitors all year round.
