Weather curtails weekend games

The only Lincolnshire Board Premier League match to make a start did not last long.

Nilantha Atapattu had an early success for Spalding when he had Grimsby Town opener Quadrat Qadiri caught by Ollie Dring for two but, with the hosts on 13/1, the match was abandoned in the fifth over when the rain became too heavy to continue.

It was the same weather-hit story in the South Lincs Border League Championship, although play did go on slightly longer.

Hosts Long Sutton had Ketton Sports on the run at 77/5 after 14 overs when the heavens opened and no more play was possible.

Josh Baker won the toss and inserted the visitors and that decision looked to have paid off as the captain took two early wickets to reduce Sports to 22/2.

Daniel Oldfield then caught Dan Hughes off Barry Stanway for a duck and Jack Baker gave him another wicket when he scooped up Brad Lucas to make it 45/4.

A wicket maiden from Jake Burton brought the match to a premature conclusion.

The weekend’s only other action was in Division One where Flynn McMillan was 20 not out in Moulton Harrox Seconds’ curtailed 36/2 against Heckington two balls into the eighth over.
