Spalding Water Taxi is back in business after the Environment Agency cleared weeds blocking the River Welland.
The not-for-profit service between the town centre and Springfields had been halted due to a build-up of weed which blocked the river and caused a stink in the town centre.
But the Environment Agency brought a weed-clearing vessel onto the Welland at the weekend to clear the weeds.
“Yippeeeee! I am happy to announce that the Water Taxi will resume its service on Tuesday, September 15,” said operator Anthony Grunwell.
His self-hire boats also returned on Wednesday having been out of action.
Both sides of his operation had been grounded since the beginning of the month as the weed arrived and quickly caused problems for the taxi and the town’s yacht club.
The weed grew and spread quickly and also created a foul smell. It covered an area from the yacht club to the town’s Little London Bridge.
The Environment Agency says it spent £80,000 this year on weed and vegetations maintenance on the Welland.0
