Water polo players enjoy tournament in Holland

Members of Spalding Water Polo Club have recently returned to the UK after taking part in Europe’s largest water polo tournament held in Holland.
The team and several support crew spent three days in Schoonebeek, playing matches in a spring-filled lake where seven pitches had been laid out with floating goals.
Captain John James said: “It was a privilege to have been invited to take part and showed how far the Spalding-based club has come over the last few years.”
He added that he was very pleased that South Holland District Council officers, who are responsible for the building of the town’s new swimming pool, had engaged with the team and the two swimming clubs to discuss Swim England’s requirements for the future of the club and competitive swimming in the area.
Assistant coach and now International referee, Mark Le Sage said: “It was an honour to officiate at the event that was attended by over 1,500 players from all over Europe.
“Our club and players can be extremely proud of their achievements. It was a fantastic very well organised event.”
