Wasted trip for Spalding United as Gresley game is postponed

Spalding United were left frustrated by a late postponement as their Evo-Stik League First Division South fixture at Gresley was called off at the 11th hour on Saturday.

The Tulips’ squad and their travelling fans anticipated no problems as they made the trip to Derbyshire – but didn’t even kick a ball in anger as the officials deemed the pitch waterlogged after a very late 2.15pm inspection.

The fixture was one of many to bite the dust on a very wet Saturday, with only six games taking place in Evo-Stik League First Division South. The Tulips hope to return to action at home to Barwell in the Doodson Sport Cup on Tuesday night (7.45pm).

A number of South Holland sides were in action in the ChromaSport Peterborough and District League, though.

Pinchbeck United were the day’s big winners. Ian Dunn’s charges eased past Premier Division rivals Leverington Sports 4-1 in the PFA Senior Cup at Knight Street.

However, Moulton Harrox slipped to a 2-1 home loss against Premier Division leaders Coates Athletic at Broad Lane in the same competition. Danny Dance and Simon Flanz got the goals for the table toppers.

Holbeach United Reserves were in league action in the top flight, but Omar Joof’s charges went down 4-2 at Peterborough Sports Reserves.

Plenty more football will be online at www.spaldingvoice.co.uk this week, with everything in Thursday’s edition.
