Advice to Sutton Bridge residents after large fire breaks out at port

Sutton Bridge residents are being urged to keep their windows and doors closed due to a fire at the nearby port.

There’s been reports of large smoke clouds and nasty smells in the area following the incident reported at 3.22pm this afternoon (Tuesday, May 2).

A spokesman for Lincolnshire Police, said: “We have received reports of a large fire at around 3.22pm in the Port Sutton Bridge area.

“There is lots of smoke and fumes, and residents are encouraged to close their doors and windows.

“The Port at Petts Lane and Sutton Bridge has been closed. Fire & Rescue are also on scene.

“We will release an update as soon as we have one.”

Rebecca Kerr lives near to the site. She said: “The smoke is coming my way. I spoke to one fireman who said it’s likely to be going all night and into tomorrow and that some of the area might get evacuated.”

Port Sutton Bridge Limited owned by Neil Bowers took on the running of Sutton Bridge Port in October of last year.
