Members of the public are being invited to be models for a series of sculptures in Spalding.
Artist Joseph Hillier has been commissioned by arts programme Transported, in partnership with Spalding and District Civic Society, to create a public artwork inspired by the town’s market history. It will be made up of a series of small bronze sculptures throughout the town centre and will be unveiled in December.
Anybody who lives or works in or around Spalding is eligible to take part.
Joseph said: “I will take digital 3D scans, a harmless and quick process lasting minutes, which will in turn will be 3D printed and cast into bronze.
“Participants will need to bring something which connects them to Spalding. It might be an old photograph or an object of some kind which reflects on their life in the town – perhaps a tool of the trade or the fruits of their labour.”
Anyone interested in being a subject for the sculptures should book a sitting by calling Ayscoughfee Hall on 01775 764555. The 30-minute sessions with Joseph will take place on Friday and Saturday, September 25 and 26.
Last month Joseph gave a public talk about his work as an artist and his ambitions for this project. A recording can be viewed at www.transportedart.com
This commission is part of Transported’s On Your Doorstep strand which brings art to unexpected places nominated by members of the local community.
