Wallis waltzes to another time trial triumph at Spalding Cycling Club

Josh Wallis was again on winning form at the latest round of Spalding Cycling Club’s ten-mile time trial league.

Following a two-week hiatus due to roadworks on the course, Wallis didn’t miss a step as he clocked an excellent time of 20.37mins – considering the weather conditions – to take first place.

Chris Ward was some way back in second (22.19min), with Neil Palmer (22.42mins) completing the top three.

Results: Josh Wallis 20.37mins; Chris Ward 22.19mins; Neil Palmer 22.42mins; Bryn Richards (Team OnForm) 23.13mins; Kieran Buffham 23.32mins; Elliot Stones 24.56mins; Matt Chappell 25.51mins; Mark Hill 26.14mins; Gareth Richards 26.28mins; Chris Bettinson 28.39mins; Gerry Charlwood 29.04mins; Velvet Bowser 30.57mins; Joseph Seaborn Townsend 38.32mins.

  • Open road racing returned to the East Midlands last Sunday after a COVID-19 enforced break of more than 400 days.

The East Midlands 3/4 test event took place over four laps of the Wymondham course near Greetham, Spalding CC entered a team comprising of Rob McAlinden, Frazer Wallis and Elliot Stones.

The racing was fast and furious from the off as riders tried to establish an early breakaway, none of which stuck.

The bunch was thinned over the second climb into Market Overton, where unfortunately Wallis suffered a mechanical issue and dropped from the bunch.

McAlinden stuck in with the pack until the final climb, when a breakaway was established – led by local racer Bryn Richards racing for Team OnForm. Disappointingly for Richards, he had a small crash before the finish line which scuppered any hopes of a victory.

  • Last Saturday Chris Ward raced in the LRRA 10-mile Championships hosted by Lincoln Wheelers where he posted a time of 21.14mins – taking first place in the veteran’s competition and ninth place overall.
