Votes needed for fundraising

Four local groups are vying for your votes as part of Aviva’s Community Fund.

The Lighthouse Project’s Karis House Cafe and Crafts, Going Forward Music Festival 2019, Carter’s Park Regeneration Project and Young Dons Junior Football Club are all in the running for a share of the insurance firm’s charity pot.

The Lighthouse Project is looking for between £10,000 and £25,000 to pay for a year’s rent for the Karis Cafe which helps young people to learn how to work within the catering trade.

The application says working at the cafe provides ‘valuable work experience’ in handling food, money and learning to interact with customers.

The application continues: “It also has a craft section with crafts that are handmade by the young people who do not have catering or interaction abilities which are then sold to help the charity.”

The organisers of Going Forward, what they believe to be Lincolnshire’s first ever musical disabilities festival, are looking for between £5k and £10k for next year’s festival.

A spokesman said: “To see all these young people enjoying an event which, because of their disabilities and limitations, they would normally be unable to access, was an absolute joy.

“The feedback we received from the families and carers was fantastic – they were so happy to have seen their young people being able to relax and be themselves without other people staring or judging them.”

The Friends of Holbeach is looking for between £1k and £5k for phase three of its project to renovate Carter’s Park in the town which involved the installation of two sit-in mobile rocking play animals.

It’s part of the group’s plans to renovate all three parks in the expanding town.

A spokesman said: “The equipment will be of an inclusive design so that children of all abilities can enjoy playing on it.”

Donington based Young Dons FC are hoping to get up to £25,000 to fund a new clubhouse.

The application states: “Unfortunately our current club house and facilities are housed in a 25 year old portable cabin and is in desperate need of renewal and updating.

“Our aim is to completely rebuild to include all necessary facilities required by current Football Association and council regulations.”
