An appeal has been made for volunteers to help keep Holbeach Library up and running.
In the middle of October Holbeach Library will be transferring from Lincolnshire County Council to a community library hub run by volunteers.
A group of volunteers have already offered their services and have met with the Lincolnshire County Council library development manager and the officer overseeing training to discuss the volunteer role and basic training to enable a smooth transfer of the service.
The immediate task at hand is to recruit more volunteers with the overall aim of getting a minimum of 30 to ensure volunteers only have to do a few hours a week that can fit around their current lifestyle.
Coun Nick Worth said: “A volunteer can do as much or as little as they want, it is all greatly appreciated.
“We already have 12 volunteers just through word of mouth, so are now asking people from the Holbeach area to come forward if they have an interest in helping out with this valued community service.
“As a volunteer you will have the chance not just to support the new community library but importantly have the opportunity to meet new people, develop new skills and be part of a team of local people willing to give up a few hours of their time to provide a vital service to the town.”
The main tasks will be to open up and lock up, switching equipment such as computers on and off (no knowledge of computers is necessary, but any experience would be beneficial), replacing and returning books on shelves, answering enquiries from the public on all manner of topics and being able to help them find the answers and keeping the library tidy.
Four training sessions will be provided to cover the basic requirements.
