Anglian Water say the ‘vast majority’ of people now have water in Spalding despite a fourth water main bursting.
It’s occurred on London Road, adding to the ones on Haverfield Road, Winsover Road and St Thomas’s Road that have happened in the last few days.
Numerous people have reported being without water while businesses have had to close as has Spalding Grammar School for what was meant to be the first two days of term.
Anglian Water says it is ‘investigating reports’ people did not receive water and the company says those that were without water for more than 12 hours will be elligible for compensation.
An Anglian Water spokesperson said this morning (Friday, September 5): “We’re so sorry that many customers in Spalding have been without water since Wednesday afternoon.
“The vast majority of customers’ taps should now be running, although some will experience lower or higher pressure than normal while the network recovers.
“This was due to four successive burst water mains, likely caused by ground movement. When pipes burst, it can affect water pressures across the whole local network, which is likely why there were further bursts following the first two on Wednesday.
“While we despatched our teams out quickly to get things back to normal as fast as possible, the complicated nature of this repair meant it took far longer than we’d hoped to get the damaged pipes replaced and get the water supply back on.
“While the supply was interrupted, we delivered bottled water to priority customers. We are investigating reports on social media that some people who are registered as on our priority service register did not receive bottled water as planned. If you would like to apply for priority services in future or know someone who would benefit you can apply through our website Apply for priority services.
“Early this morning (Friday September 5) we restored mains supply to the vast majority of affected customers. After a series of bursts like this, customers in the area might experience low pressures while the network settles. The tap water can also look cloudy. This is harmless and caused by millions of tiny air bubbles. If you leave the water to clear in a glass or run your tap for a bit it will soon disappear.
“When any of our customers’ water supply is interrupted for 12 hours or more, we automatically pay a statutory compensation payment through our Guaranteed Service Standards (GSS) scheme.
“We determine which customers are eligible for this based on modelling data, which shows us exactly who was affected and how long for. You don’t need to contact us – this compensation will be automatically applied to your Anglian Water account, and we’ll get in touch to let you know when it’s there.
“Once again, we’re really sorry for the inconvenience we’ve caused over the last few days. Our team is working as quickly and safely as possible to repair and reopen the local roads we’ve closed, and get the small number of properties that are still affected back on water. We’d like to thank our customers in Spalding for bearing with us while we make things right.”
