Vandalism wrecks fundraising finale

An established motorsport club is counting the cost of vandalism to its track which wrecked its charity fundraising finale at the weekend.
The Spalding Autograss Club discovered on Saturday morning that around £2,000 of damage had been caused to its track at Hurdletree Bank in Holbeach.
The club was forced to postpone Sunday’s scheduled final meeting of the season which was also a fundraiser for Macmillan Cancer Support.
And they are now appealing for help with donations to repair the damage to the barriers and fencing around their track.
Chairman Chamelle Clayton said that the volunteers at the club – which was founded more than 50 years ago – had been left stunned by the damage.
She said: “The club is run by volunteers, nobody gets paid, and we’re just like one big family so it’s hit everyone really hard.
“We’re all disgusted and sickened by what has happened. It was a massive shock and we’re all absolutely gutted about it.
“The outside of the track has been destroyed and we had no option but to call off Sunday’s meeting which should have been our last one of the season.
“We had drivers coming from all over the Midlands and we had also planned to raise some money for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity which makes what has happened even more cruel and disgusting.
“Hopefully we can reschedule the meeting for the end of the month, so if anyone can help with donations that would be really appreciated.
“We need to replace the Armco barrier around the track as well as the heavy duty wire which has also been damaged.
“The electric wire which connects the tannoy system has also been damaged and will need replacing. There has been around £2,000 of damage caused.”
If anyone can help with donations, they should e-mail the club at [email protected]
