Van driver was on cocaine

A Weston man has been fined after being found driving a van while under the influence of cocaine.

Ricky Joe Heaviside, 31, of Small Drove, admitted driving under the influence of drugs when he appeared at Boston Magistrates Court.

Prosecuting, Lee Shepherd said police stopped Heaviside when he was driving a Vauxhall Combo van at 9am on February 2 in The Meadows in Spalding and as he smelt of alcohol, he was breathalysed with a negative result.

However, he said that as Heaviside’s eye pupils were dilated, they gave him a drugs swipe, which was positive for cocaine and a later analysis gave a reading of 27 micrograms, the legal limit being 10.

Mitigating, David Eager said there ‘no aggravating circumstances’.

Heaviside was banned from driving for a year and ordered to pay a fine of £550 and court costs and charges totalling £140.
