Urge to respond on green waste

Members of the public who are on South Holland District Council’s waiting list for its Green Waste Scheme are urged to respond if they’ve received a letter inviting to pick one up or lose their place in the queue.

The cost of the scheme is also set to go up next month.
The authority’s portfolio holder for environmental services Jack Tyrrell told a meeting of the council that of the over 2,000 on the list, 1,035 have been contacted to be offered a bin.
There were 651 who had responded and received their bins, but hundreds had yet to respond to the offer.
“If you’ve been contacted you need to get it or you’ll be took off the list,” he said
“We’re doing about 150 bins a week at the moment. If people are interested they need to get their names down with us.
“It’s a service we are expanding to other areas.
“Everybody should apply and if there’s more people in that area, then we’ll look to roll the green bins out in there areas too.”
The cost of the scheme is to increase from April from the current £52 to £57.
That and the £17.50 cost covers 24 fortnightly collections throughout the year, delivery, repairs and loan of the bin, newsletters and further offers.
