One of the organisers of remembrance events in Spalding says she was left ‘upset’ after vandals broke some of the poppies that are lining the town centre’s streets.
Coun Jan Whitbourn says that 20 poppies have been ripped or stolen and some hand made bunting taken after being put up in the last week.
That’s ahead of the Remembrance Sunday parade that’s taking place this Sunday (November 9).
“I was so upset when I saw them,” Coun Whitbourn said. “Some of the poppies have been ripped or just taken off completely and they don’t come cheap.
“I just don’t get it. Why would you just rip them up?
“They are part of the remembrance event to help those at the service remember and show their appreciation for the fallen.”
“I am praying they do not take our bunting, that will be the last straw,” she continued mentioning items created by the Busy Bees group in the town. “All the other stuff will be put up on Saturday. I am going to have to trust people, but it won’t be easy if they go too.
“So much work goes into it; people have no idea.”
