Uniform scheme is suiting pupils

A scheme which has seen 400 pieces of school uniform donated to those who need it, including Ukrainian refugees, has been hailed a success.

Holbeach Methodist Church, working with United Academy Holbeach, set up the Uniform Exchange scheme a year ago.

And its organisers say it’s proved a huge success helping families who might otherwise struggle to purchase the required school clothes, including a number of young people fleeing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Reverend Luke Smith, of Holbeach Methodist Church, said: “It’s just over a year since we started the scheme.

“Since then 400 items of uniform have been handed out to families,” he said. “Various families have been helped, ranging from children moving from primary school, those moving in from other parts of the country and Ukrainian families.

“This has only been possible due to the generosity of people donating items either at the church or at UAH.”

A service of thanks is being held on Sunday March 26, at 10.30am at Holbeach Methodist Church.

“Anyone is welcome to come along to the service which will last about an hour,” Rev Smith said.

“It is hoped at the service people will share something of the difference the scheme has made to them.

“The church is open each Thursday 9.30am-11am should anyone be able to donate UAH uniform items or is looking for uniform.

“Although we prefer this to be on an exchange basis. If you need it and we have it, its yours, no questions asked.”

The Methodist Church in Holbeach is on Albert Street PE12 7DP.
