Tydd St Mary’s run is halted by table-topping Whittlesey despite Lowe opener

Tydd St Mary’s eight-game unbeaten run came to an end on Saturday as they were narrowly beaten 3-1 at ChromaSport PDFL Division Two leaders Whittlesey A.

After a strong start it was the Saints who took the lead when Jordan Ainslie whipped a great cross in for Tim Lowe to smash home first time into the bottom corner.

However, Whittlesey levelled from the spot before half-time and added two more goals after the break – including a last-gasp third.

Jacob Smith (2) and Matt Heron got the goals, while Tydd – who are now fourth – had David Cooper sent off in added time.

Co-manager Dave Monaghan said: “I couldn’t have asked any more of the lads today. We did everything right apart from score.

“We have had a brilliant 2016 – winning two cups, gaining promotion and looking good in Division Two to date.

“Although we lost this game, we take that on the chin and look forward to an equally good 2017 for the Saints.”
