Tydd St Giles team finishes third at Brian’s popular event

Six golfers from Blankney took the spoils at Tydd St Giles Golf Club’s Brian Shales Trophy event.

The competition was held to remind players of the outstanding work performed by seniors’ co-ordinator Brian Shales over the past ten years, in both dreaming up the idea of open competition at Tydd, and then running them.

Shales has now stepped back from the limelight and is enjoying a quieter life, although he still enjoys a few social rounds.

Ian Smith, Bruce Hayes, Chris Symonds, Martin Bloomer, Andrew Wylde and Ray Pacey scored 121 points to take top spot for Blankney on countback from Middleton Hall’s Dave Dugmore, Tim

Boldero, Bar Fox, Chris Moore, John Burdett and Bob Gamble.

A team from Tydd St Giles finished third on 120 points. Steve Skoulding, Dave Morris, Ken Sherry, Paul Berdett, Dennis Savory and Russell Doy were representing the home side.

The raffle on the day raised £235. That, added to the halfway house’s £65.50, saw a total of £300.50 donated to the seniors’ chosen charity Diabetes UK
