Tydd St Giles remember Alf with new golf tournament

Tydd St Giles Golf Club member Alf Bishop was remembered by 61 members from the seniors’ and ladies’ sections last week.

The many members honoured Alf, who passed away just over a year ago, in the only way they know how – by playing a golf tournament in his memory.

A trophy was been purchased and donated for the occasion by Geoff Sturdy, with the condition that all monies raised were to be donated to the East Anglia Air Ambulance.

Also present on the day were Marilyn Bishop and her son Paul, both of whom donated the trophies to the winners.

In the ladies’ event, a score of nett 75 earned Val Sambridge top spot ahead of Beryl Clay (nett 76), while the seniors’ winner was John Ormiston on a fine nett 66.
He was closely followed by runner-up Dennis Savory (nett 68).

After the event, A cheque for the sum of £570 was presented to Marilyn Bishop by the seniors’ captain Trevor Sewell, for presentation to the Air Ambulance.
