Tydd St Giles Golf Club’s Bob Johns Classic raises £447 for Cancer Research

Tydd St Giles Golf Club’s annual Bob Johns Classic Open raised an impressive amount for charity this year.

The four ball team Stableford event was in aid of Cancer Research UK, with sponsor and co-organiser John Leake pleased to announce that £447 was raised on the day.

The winning team was Coveris from Wisbech with 127 points. Their team consisted of Barry Ellis, Matt Houchen, John Forbes and Steve Embleton.

The runners-up came from home team Tydd with 120 points.

Chris Moore, Toby North, Lee Newman and Liz Miller made up that team, but they needed countback to secure second spot.

Nearest the pin (fourth hole) was Ian Larman, while on the eighth hole it was Dennis Savory. The 11th saw Mick Vassall closest, while the nearest on the 16th hole was Baz Smith.

  • Men’s section results: August Medal: Division One – 1st Clive Barber 80-11=69 (ocb); 2nd Tim Hines 74-5=69 (ocb); 3rd Lenk Gostic 74-5=69.

Division Two – 1st James Brighty 79-15=64; 2nd John Kellegher 81-14=67; 3rd Shane Sleath 81-13=68.

Division Three – 1st Andrew Goodwin 86-22=64; 2nd Terence Bate 88-22=66; 3rd ocb Silas Mutubuki 88-20=68.

  • Seniors’ section: Stableford Trophy competition: Division One – 1st Peter Wheeler 39pts (ocb); 2nd Chris Moore 39pts; 3rd Ken Parker 38pts.

Division Two – 1st Ian Millett 39pts; 2nd Russell Doy 37pts (ocb); 3rd Ron Colledge 37pts.

Division Three – 1st Barry Purple 41pts; 2nd David Leedle 39pts; 3rd Bob Mann 38pts.

Division Four – 1st Terry Sambridge 42pts; 2nd Derek Martin 37pts; 3rd John Gamble 35pts.

Sutton Bridge Golf Club

Sarah Sheldrick is this year’s winner of the Dolly Eyre Salver at Sutton Bridge Golf Club.

She took top spot ahead of ladies’ section rivals Karen Gillett and Nicola Elphick in second and third places respectively.

However, Elphick did get her hands on the Mary Christian Rose Bowl crown.

She edged Diane Wareham into second, with Jill McEwan third on countback from Margaret Fox.
