Two become one at Rotary merger

rotary smallMembers of two Rotary clubs attended a milestone event to mark their merger into one group.

Nine years after the formation of the Rotary Club of Spalding and Welland it has merged with the Rotary Club of Spalding, which has been running for 77 years.

The new group will be known as the Rotary Club of Spalding and Welland.

President Richard Thacker and Jon Bradley on behalf of president Kate Rivett from the two existing clubs officially handed over the chains of office at a barbecue held at the Woodlands Hotel to the first president of the combined club, Rotarian Melvyn Price.

District Governor Margaret Morley and her successor from the start of July Ken Billington were present to take part in the launch of the newly-merged group and to present new president Melvyn Price with the club’s brand new charter.

Margaret also proposed the toast to the future of the newly merged club.

This is the first such event of its type in District 1070, which comprises 86 separate Rotary clubs.

During the events cheques were also handed to the recipients of the Rotary club’s Two Lips campaign recently held to raise cash for good causes.
