Two arrested after police chase

Two men have been arrested on suspicion to steal after a police chase from Spalding to Bourne.

Lincolnshire Police says it spotted a grey Fiesta on the A16 just after 5pm yesterday (Sunday) believed to have involved in ‘bilking’ offences in several occasions, including in Spalding and Whaplode.

Bilking means to obtain or withhold money from (someone) unfairly or by deceit; cheat or defraud.

After initially failing to stop for police the vehicle eventually came to a halt at Bourne where several tanks of diesel were found in the back.

Two men aged 38 and 32 have been arrested on suspicion of  conspiracy to steal.

A  police statement says: “Officers on patrol yesterday (19/05) noticed a suspicious vehicle on the A16, Main Road, at Spalding at 1711, that was believed to have been involved in bilking offences over the past few days in Stamford, Market Deeping, Bourne, Whaplode, Spalding and the Cambs area.

“The vehicle – a grey Fiesta – failed-to-stop for officers when requested, eventually coming to a stop in Bourne, where two men, aged 38 and 32, were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to steal.

“Several tanks of diesel fuel were discovered in the back of the vehicle and the pair remain in custody.”
