Turn heat on oil thieves this winter

Spalding Police inspector Gareth Boxall is urging members of the public to be hot on reporting potential incidents of heating oil theft.

A quantity of fuel was stolen from a property in Chesboule Lane, Gosberton Risegate between January 1 and 7.

In the incident a person broke in to the property’s garden where they drained the oil from the owner’s fuel tanks.

Inspector Boxall says there tends to be an increase in this kind of thefts at this time of year and is asking the public to be vigilant.

He said: “We like to get the message out to people at this time of year that it’s a good time to renew security around their heating oil.

“This goes for commercial properties as well as residential ones.

“If anybody sees anything suspicious, particularly during the night in rural areas, pick the phone up and let us know where and when.”

Anyone with any information about heating oil theft is asked to contact 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers number on 08000 555 111.
