Turbine walls get go-ahead at new cabins

A new holiday park has been granted permission to have fences with turbines in them to generate power.

Developer Larkfleet gained permission for the 38 cabins on Lowgate Fleet last year.

It was back before South Holland District Council’s Planning Committee last week asking permission for the fences which the wind blows through to create energy for a battery.

Jamie Pert, of agent Planning Potential, said: “Larkfleet use innovative and sustainable construction methods.

“It’s testament to the site and developers’ ongoing investment in renewable energy.

“It will significantly reduce its reliance on the national grid.

“They make little to no noise and will not be heard at the nearest residential properties 100 metres away.”

Some councillors expressed doubt about the application as they didn’t know enough about the technology.

Coun Peter Coupland said: “There’s a lot of questions on this.

“I’m not against green energy and doing things, but let’s do things cleanly and neatly.”

But Coun Paul Redgate said: “It’s been around since 2017 and I know a place that’s got it. Most are painted black and white so you don’t flicker.

“To me this is a very sensible approach. It’s a complimentary system to the solar panels.”

Developer Larkfleet says that the new holiday park will be completed by the end of April.
