Tulips travel to newcomers for opening league match

The weather put paid to any hopes Elliot Sandy had of watching more trialists as he continues to build his Spalding United squad ahead of a new Pitching In Northern Premier League Midlands Division season.

Heavy rain washed out Saturday’s scheduled friendly at Kempston Rovers but the Tulips were due to be back in action on Wednesday with a trip to Blackstones.
The league season starts on Saturday, August 12 and Sandy’s men will open with a trip to the Oak Park home of newcomers Walsall Wood.
The West Midlands outfit won the Midlands Premier League last season.
AFC Rushden & Diamonds are the first visitors of the campaign to the Sir Halley Stewart Field, on Tuesday, August 15.
The regular season finishes on Saturday, April 27, with Spalding welcoming Coleshill Town.
The competitive season opens on Tuesday, August 8 with a Lincolnshire County FA Senior Cup tie at Grantham Town.
In the FA Cup, the Tulips enter in the preliminary round on August 19 and are at home to Sleaford or Shepshed.
Entry to the FA Trophy comes in the first qualifying round on September 9, when they make the trip to the world’s oldest club, Sheffield. As well as prize money of £1,500, the winners of that tie will earn a trip to Hanley Town or Cleethorpes Town in the next round.
p Moulton Harrox will be aiming to finish one place higher in the Peterborough League when a new season starts on Saturday, August 12.
They missed out on the title by just two points least term and start the new one with an away match at Netherton United.
Crowland Town, who finished fourth last time out, face a tough task at home to Warboys, who finished one place higher in the Premier Division.
Reprieved Tydd will be at home to Wittering Premiair, while Holbeach United Reserves are at Oundle Town.
