Tulips sign new striker

Former Northern Ireland U21s striker Bradley Fortnam-Tomlinson leads four signings announced by Spalding United.

A former Sheffield Wednesday and St Johnson youth team player, the 25-year-old has played for a host of clubs including the Tulips league rivals Wisbech Town and Loughborough Dynamo during the previous campaign.

He joins a trio of the club’s young players in signing on for Spalding for next season after breaking into the first team towards the end of the previous campaign.

Former Lincoln City midfielder Tobias Liversidge, last season’s Young Player of the Year Elliott Burrell and full back Scott Lloyd have all put pen to paper on playing for the Tulips’ 20/21 Northern Premier League South East campaign.

Manager Lewis Thorogood said in his weekly post on the club’s Facebook page that 11 players had signed on for next season but that “there’s a couple of bits and pieces to get over the line”.

“I’m still waiting for a few existing players to finalise theirs futures with me whether I want them or not,” he continued.

On Fortnam-Tomlinson’s signing, Thorogood said: “He’s a seasoned campaigner at this level and at levels above and below.

“I believe he’s a prolific, 20-goal-a-season striker.

“He’s really quick and has an eye for goal so I’m really looking forward to him coming in.”

Thorogood also said that Spalding had spoken to three football league clubs about potential friendlies on the assumption the season kicks off on time.

The club is still due to reconvene for pre-season training next month and it’s hoped gatherings of under 250 may be allowed come the time the new season is due to kick off in August.

He told fans provisional dates had been booked in for trips to United Counties League sides Boston Town and Holwell Sports plus Newark Floweserve had been arranged as had a home friendly with Southern League outfit Kempston Rovers.
