Tulips seeking support for fundraising scheme

Spalding United’s fledgling Under 21 development squad have launched a new fundraising initiative.

The Tulips have started an online Crowdfunder scheme with the aim of providing a sound platform before kicking off their inaugural campaign.

The aim of the scheme is for supporters to contribute as little or as much as they like (contributions start from just £1) via the secure online Crowdfunder page.

And Under 21 manager Lewis Thorogood believes the initiative will help what he hopes to be an exciting development at the Sir Halley Stewart ground.

Thorogood said: “Having an Under 21 side is a new venture for the Tulips but, as we’ve all seen with the success of England in winning the recent Under 20 World Cup, the talent level at this young age is outstanding and of potentially great benefit to all clubs who recognise and embrace its value.

“With high-level, Academy-style coaching and management, the Under 21s will deliver an elite development side which will provide a link between the youth/reserve set up and a pathway to the first team, all within a professional development environment.

“We are looking for people to support this exciting new scheme.

“We want to provide the best resources available to new and existing players to aid the goal of them reaching first team football and provide the town with a successful team featuring a host of local talent who will support the first-team in their quest for promotion.

“We hope that raising operational funds via a Crowdfunder page will prove to be a key part of our success.”

The Under 21s will be playing in the Lincolnshire FA Under-21 Development League this season and will also compete the Lincolnshire Junior Cup.

Thorogood added: “We’ll also be playing a series of friendly matches as well against Under 18 to Under 23 Football League academy sides.

“I would urge those excited by this new development with the club to please contribute anything they can afford to help ensure that this exciting new initiative starts with a flourish and goes from strength to strength.”

The Under 21s open their pre-season campaign on Tuesday, July 11, when they visit United Counties League Division One side Bourne Town.
