Tulips out of FA Cup after loss

Spalding United Women are out of the FA Cup after losing 3-1 at home to Stanground Cardea.

The first qualifying round tie was originally played the previous Sunday, with the Peterborough side 2-1 up with only two minutes left when Tulips keeper Vickie Foster suffered a severe concussion and had to be carried off, leading to an abandonment.

The FA ruled the game had to be replayed, and so it was at the Sir Halley this Sunday.

After an even first half an hour, Andreeia Oliveria opened the scoring for Stanground.

Early in the second period Nicola Krajewska netted to get Spalding back on an even footing.

On the hour mark Ava Ballard made it 2-1 to the visitors before Georgia Elsom sealed Stanground’s progression in the competition just before the break.

Spalding are back in East Midlands Women’s League this Sunday when they host Leicester City Ladies at the Sir Halley Stewart in a 2pm kick off.
