Tulips’ old boy goes global

Former Spalding United manager Gabriel Zakuani is making his mark on the world stage.
Since leaving Lincolnshire, Zakuani, who can speak eight languages, has been responsible for identifying players from across the globe who are eligible to play for the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Recent squads have had a host of players who represented England, France, Belgium and Switzerland at youth level, including Premier League players Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Yoane Wissa.
“You have to do your own research,” he told the BBC.
“I just look at the surnames and one that may have some sort of Congolese heritage and then start digging.”
The Zaire-born former Peterborough United defender was in charge of the Tulips from 2020-21 after chalking up more than 500 professional appearances.
