Tulips force draw; Tigers’ rally not enough; champions-elect Moulton Harrox held

Spalding United and play-off hopefuls Chasetown settled for one point apiece at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field on Saturday (April 9).

Defender Neal Spafford’s early goal for the Tulips was cancelled out by a Daniel Edwards effort on 43 minutes.

Spalding, now 11th in the Evo-Stik NPL Division One South table, host Stocksbridge Park Steels on Tuesday.

Holebach United quickly found themselves 3-0 in their ChromaSport and Trophies UCL Premier Division clash at Kirby Muxloe. The Tigers rallied in the second half but went home with nothing after a 3-2 defeat.

They host league leaders Leicester Nirvana at Carter’s Park on Wednesday (8pm).

In the ChromaSport Peterborough and District League, Premier Division champions-elect Moulton Harrox had to come from behind at half-time to earn a draw with Netherton United.

However, they remain 20 points clear because Whittlesey Athletic went down 2-1 at Holbeach United Reserves. Veteran defender Dean Elston scored a 20-yard belter for the Tigers, who led 2-0 at the break.

Up into second place in the table are free-flowing Pinchbeck United. Player/manager Ian Dunn grabbed two goals in a 3-1 win at Thorney, Tom Brooks getting the other.

Pinchbeck United host Moulton Harrox at Knight Street on Tuesday, April 19.

In Division One, third-placed Sutton Bridge United and Moulton Harrox Reserves shared the points in a 1-1 draw at Memorial Park.

It was the same result at Stamford Lions, as a Daniel Klos goal earned Spalding United a very commendable point at the league leaders.

Long Sutton Athletic returned from bottom side Langtoft Utd Reserves with a win, thanks to goals from player/manager Matt Cawthorn and Josh Lawrence. A converted late penalty had given the hosts hope.
