TULIP TALK with Jan Whitbourn

On Sunday, July 3, Tulip Radio will be hosting an Armed Forces Celebration Day in association with Harold Payne, from the Anglia Motel, Fleet Hargate.

It will conclude a month of celebrations dedicated to the Armed Forces with many local veterans attending a meet and greet arranged for the community to come and enjoy a day of packed fun and entertainment.

Tulip Radio will be interviewing many veterans to help preserve the stories for future generations to come.

The day will consist of re-enactments of how people lived, dressed and wartime classics will be sung for everyone to join in and dance to. A mobile war museum decorated with pictures of Spitfires, Lancasters and tanks will be on display with guns, ammunition, film, old uniforms, medals, photos and memories of past soldiers from our community, all collected from the first and second world wars. We are also looking forward to the Battle of Britain Flypast which always leaves a lump in your throat.

A lunch will be provided free to all veterans and their wives, followed by a Ready, Steady, Cook competition finale between The Royal Naval Association and The Royal Anglian & the Royal Lincolnshire Regiment Association.

Watch out for some fun with that one, guns at dawn comes to mind, they are truly getting into the spirit of the event.

This event will give the community an opportunity to say thank you to the Armed Forces veterans and will run alongside events being organised by Harold Payne at the Anglia Motel all weekend.

Tulip Radio is appealing to all Armed Force veterans and anyone who has served in the forces to email or get in contact with us as soon as possible.

Everyone is eligible for the Armed Forces Veterans Badge if they have served in the forces.

The badges will be presented on the day by John Hayes MP, all you have to do is fill out a form and Tulip Radio will do the rest.

I am talking to the Ministry of Defence who are organising the veterans’ badges to be there on the day for as many people as possible. Please do get in contact if you haven’t received yours. Everyone who has served in the Armed

Forces are eligible for one – our aim is to make this event a memorable one.

If you would like more information about the Armed Forces Celebration Day or about the Armed Forces Veterans Badge, call Tulip Radio on 01775 712400 or email [email protected].
