Tulip Talk with Jan Whitbourn, October 2

This week sees the ever popular Pumpkin Festival return to Spalding, this Friday and it promises to be ever more spectacular.

The event is sponsored by David Bowman Pumpkins Ltd who is the largest pumpkin growers in the UK, producing over 3.5 million of the popular orange fruits each year.

David Bowman grows his entire crop locally and sells to all the major UK supermarkets, at present the harvesting season is in full swing with the vast majority of the crop now back in store ready for dispatch from mid October.

The festival itself takes over Spalding town centre and will see street performances from the Courgettes as well as Balloonatic plus pumpkin themed stalls during the day.

Look out for those wonderful carved scary and inviting pumpkins, made especially by Jonathan and his wife.

Early evening sees Tulip Radio compering the popular Children’s Fancy Dress Competition, sponsored by the Lions, in the Market Place, this year, from the senior section of thecompetition the winner will ride on the Pumpkin Coach in the parade at 6.30pm.

This will be a great opportunity for a young student and a privilege for them to be such a big part of the parade.

There’s musical entertainment from 5pm on the main stage featuring many local acts live on the main stage which Tulip Radio are proud to be compering.

This year sees a newly formed young popular group, Radius 45 performing just before the firework display, don’t miss them.

The main Pumpkin Parade leads off from the Sheep Market at 6.30pm. This is always popular with families and this year the route is slightly different in that it comes down through the Crescent before returning to the Market Place.

To conclude the evening there’s the traditional fantastic firework display at 7.35pm which is fired from the roof of the South Holland Centre.

The event will close at 8pm which makes it an ideal opportunity for families to enjoy the sights and sound of an autumn evening in Spalding.

Tulip Radio will be taking lots of photos, look at the website: www.tulip-radio.co.uk to see if you are featured next week.
