Tulip Talk: All aboard for Pumpkin Parade

Tulip 04-09

The new school term may be just around the corner but while many will not be looking forward to going back to school, there will be plenty of excitement to look forward to at this year’s Spalding Pumpkin Festival.

The popular annual event, sponsored by David Bowman Pumpkins Ltd, takes place on Friday, October 3 and promises to be another spectacular community celebration with many chances for young people to take part.

The ever popular Spalding Lions’ fancy dress competition is always well supported and this year moves from Hall Place to the main stage in the Market Place. It takes place at 5.30pm and there are three categories for different age groups.

This year there’s a fantastic prize and wonderful opportunity. As we no longer have a Flower Queen to ride in the pumpkin carriage that leads the parade, the winner of the nine to 12 years category in the fancy dress competition will ride in the carriage, accompanied by an adult.

Fancy dress costumes should reflect the festival’s theme which is a celebration of the Local Horticulture and Harvest.

Young people are also encouraged to take their spooky creations along to the pumpkin lantern parade on foot starting from Sheep Market at 6.30pm.

Led by the pumpkin coach, the parade will wind its way around town centre streets before finishing in New Road.

The climax of the night is a fireworks display from the top of the South Holland Centre.

The town centre hosts a charity market all day with street entertainment, activities and competitions.

As ever pumpkins will occupy centre stage, there will be cooking demonstrations with recipes and ideas on how to get the best out of your tasty treat when you get home.

Tulip Radio will be compering throughout the day, giving news and keeping you up-to-date.

We hope to see you there!
