TULIP COLUMN: Chance for queen and choirs to shine

Friday, November 28, sees Spalding’s Christmas Lights switched on for 2014 by the brand new Tulip Queen with Santa as part of what promises to be a truly glittering event based around Hall Place in Spalding.

As part of the run up to the big event, the ever popular Schools’ Christmas Choir Competition will take place.

This competition which started with just an idea four years ago is now ever more hotly contested amongst our local schools.

Every school wants the prestige of winning the best school choir competition and each year Tulip Radio’s Jan Whitbourn is approached earlier and earlier by potential contestants asking for confirmation that it will still be run.

The answer this year is a resounding yes and what’s more there ever more generous prizes to be won; in fact over £2,500 will be split amongst the winners thanks to the generosity of Bakkavor, Hughes Electrical and AlleyCatz, Loaded and Bounce. Also thanks to Sainsbury’s Supermarket Ltd for the Educational Tour.

Entries are still being accepted, all schools have to do is contact Tulip Radio on 01775 712400 or email [email protected].

This year also sees the resurrection of the Tulip Queen Competition which seeks to find a confident, bubbly ambassador for South Holland to open many fetes and attend events throughout the district as their VIP during next spring, summer and autumn.

There are fabulous prizes to be won including a fabulous ball gown FREE to the value of £400 from Fancy Frox as well as a cocktail dress and makeover at Hills Department Store for the newly crowned Queen to attend those wonderful events throughout the year, plus other prizes as well.

Already we have entries for this and the winner will be chosen on the day, on the outdoor stage and her first duty will be to switch on the lights with Santa.

Is this you or do know someone who would like to do this? If so, then please ask them to collect an entry form from Alleycatz, Lincs Free Press or Tulip Radio.

The lights switch-on promises to be a truly entertaining affair with help and sponsorship from local businesses, including The Red Lion Hotel kindly sponsoring the Spalding Marching Ambassadors who promise to deliver another stunning performance in the lead up.

Several councillors have also donated funds so the town will have the privilege of hearing the Kirton Brass Band and Holbeach Town Band and other attractions to brighten up the weekend with the great sound of music.

The whole weekend promises to be bright and cheerful with music to entertain you as you go Christmas shopping in the town.

Also with a market on Saturday and Sunday and the shops open to help you choose your Christmas presents all week end.

For further information on any event or competition, please email Jan Whitbourn on [email protected] or call 01775 712400.
