Trodden-on fundraiser thanks public after fall in Spalding

A Pinchbeck man who has helped raise around £186,000 for The Poppy Appeal has thanked people for helping him after he collapsed in Spalding and was trodden on.

Tony Boyer fell ill while walking down Broad Street at around 8pm on Monday, November 20.

A number of members of the public looked after him, but one passer-by trod on his ankle which was later found to be broken.

An ambulance was called for, but was unable to attend within an hour, so Tony was taken home by two policemen.

Tony said: “Thank you to everyone who helped me.

“The ambulances were busy at the time at other emergencies so it was very nice of the policemen to help take me home.”

Tony is the treasurer of the Pinchbeck branch of the Royal British Legion.

This was the last of 17 years he’s helped co-ordinate the Poppy Appeal’s collections at Morrison’s in Pinchbeck.

His team this year collected £14,143.77 – its highest total so far.

Over the years they’ve raised around £186,000.
