Tributes for Holbeach guitarist Dave Stubbs

A musician inspired by rock legend Jimi Hendrix has died at his Holbeach home.

Dave Stubbs  was the founder member of local band Bad to the Bone.

He died on Saturday after battling with bladder cancer and was with his wife Sue and daughter Lindsay at home.

Sue and Dave had been married for 43 years, and would have celebrated their 44th anniversary on December 8.

“His last gig was at the Swan in Moulton on August 20 when they raised £1,200 for the Youth Cancer Trust.

“He loved Jimi Hendrix and his first band was called Purple Haze,” said Sue.

The couple’s son Kieran died two years ago at the age of 37 and the Youth Cancer Trust supported the family during his illness.

He had a brain tumour for 17 years and left a widow, Kelly.

“The Youth Cancer Trust takes them on holidays where they could try horse riding, sailing a yacht and it’s only a small charity,” added Mrs Stubbs.

Tributes poured into the band’s Facebook page when the news was announced.

“I remember my dad taking me . . telling me that I would never be a better bass player than Stubby. He was right!,” said Martyn Hallam.

Known as Doc or Dr Stubbs, he had also previously run Stubbs Engineering.
