The son of a Deeping St Nicholas man killed at a quarry this week has paid tribute to his ‘fantastic’ father.
Richard Marjoram (57) was named by police on Tuesday as the victim of an industrial accident in Leicestershire.
Emergency services were called to a quarry near Melton, on Monday morning after reports of an incident involving a man and a lorry.
“We are deeply shocked and upset at the death of my father, who was a very special husband to mum and also a fantastic father and much loved grandfather. Words cannot describe how much we will miss him,” said his son Ben.
His father, of Deeping St Nicholas, was pronounced dead at the scene and the police and Health and Safety Executive are running a joint investigation.
Former World Superstox champion Ben was racing in Ipswich at the weekend where he took third place in the national championship and his father was with him.
Richard was well-known within the racing community and Whaplode Drove-based HCD Racing is a car builder and sponsor.
“All of us are deeply shocked and saddened at the loss of Dick, one of our motorsport family. We only saw him at the weekend at the Ipswich Spedeweekend, one of our biggest racing events of the year,” said owners Trudy and Colin Aylward.
“Dick was always present at the Superstox meetings helping and supporting his son Ben and there was no one prouder when Ben won the Superstox World final in 2009. Our thoughts are with Dick’s family and friends. We will miss him greatly around the tracks.”
