Trial trench digs at Castle

Archaeological digs will start on the site of a proposed new swimming pool and wellbeing hub in Spalding.

As part of the process to go through before starting work on the major project, trial trenches will take place in the grounds of the Castle Sports Centre in Spalding.
The works will last around four weeks and are needed to determine the presence of any potential artefacts before the scheme starts.
The car parks, children’s play park, outdoor bowls and cinder track will remain open as normal throughout the work. The main grassed areas will be closed off with Heras fencing for the duration.
A £20m investment to address health and wellbeing has been allocated from the government.
In addition to the gym will be new pools, sports hall, cafe and activity areas for children.
There are proposals for a community garden, park run and splash pad facilities.
The formal planning application has yet to be submitted.
Securing a contract with one provider across the whole of the South and East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership is on the cards.
