Pupils from Weston St Mary C of E Primary School have helped plant 150 trees in the school grounds.
The school teamed up with London North Eastern Railway (LNER) and Carbon Footprint as part of a new project which aims to raise awareness regarding environmental issues.
A combination of Birch (Silver), Common Alder, Dog/Guelder Rose and Green Beech species, totalling 150 trees, were specifically chosen to be planted to support the local school biodiversity.
Rachael Wilson, LNER’s Station Partnership Project Manager said: “We are very excited about our tree planting programme and are thrilled to have kicked it off here in Spalding with the help of Weston St Mary Primary School.
“Sustainability and protecting the environment are core values for us and we’re focused on having a positive impact in the regions we serve.”
John Buckley, managing director at Carbon Footprint, said: “LNER are taking a very responsible step in supporting native tree planting in the UK – and what better way to do this than in local schools, engaging kids as the environmental ambassadors of the future.”
