Tree memorial to former councillor

A memorial tree has been planted in memory of Coun Angela Newton in her former ward.

The former county and district councillor passed away last year.

Members of Angela’s family including husband Alan Porter and cousin Coun Jane King were in attendance at the event on The Parkway.

It was organised by current district council member Steve Timewell.

“A couple of people have asked if there was going to be some memorial and someone else suggested a tree,” he said. “It’s not about politics as Angela was an Independent candidate and I’m Conservative, but I felt it was important she was remembered in the area as I’m full of admiration for the work she did.

“The South Holland District Council gardeners provided the metal stand and guard for the tree, Coun Chris Brewis made the hand printed sign and I made the wooden plaque for it to stand on.”
