Travellers’ site recommended for approval

Plans for a traveller site on Raven’s Gate, Holbeach St Johns look likely to be approved.

The application for one residential plot with one caravan and a day room is set to go before members of South Holland District Council’s planning committee on Wednesday (April 29).

A report says the caravan would be used for sleeping while a family room, kitchen and bathroom would be included in the ‘ancillary day room’.

The site lies within countryside and outside any defined settlement boundary.

To the north of the site land is currently used as a storage yard. The wider site is enclosed by trees and hedging, says the report to the committee.

Objections were received from a number of people, including South Holland and the Deepings MP Sir John Hayes. He raised concerns about the site’s character, amenity and highway safety.

The lengthy report concludes the development ‘represents an acceptable form of gypsy and traveller accommodation.’

“It is not considered that the recommendation in this case will have a disproportionately adverse impact on protected characteristic.”
