Traffic delays as burst water main closes road

A burst water main on a diversion route for another closed road is set to cause traffic chaos for the rest of this week.

Drivers have reported long traffic delays in Spalding due to the closures of both Queens Road and Commercial Road in town.

Queens Road had been scheduled to be closed by Lincolnshire County Council for work on the pavements with its traffic meant to be diverted down Commercial Road.

However, that is now also shut to traffic due to Anglian Water carrying out emergency work following a burst water main yesterday (Monday, September 16).

“We are sorry for any traffic disruption on Commercial Road in Spalding,” a spokesman for Anglian Water stated. “We needed to close the road in order to enable our teams to repair a burst main in the area, which may be impacting water pressure.

“We’d like to thank residents for their patience as we get things back to normal and all being well, get the road reinstated by the end of the week.”

The county council’s works on Queens Road are due to finish on October 4. It’s been closed after delays were reported with signals that had been in place previously.
