Spalding Town’s under-15s clinched two cracking derby wins over rivals Long Sutton under-15s in the space of three days.

On Friday night the duo did battle in a league cup quarter final – and after winning the toss, skipper James Hook elected to bat.

Jordan Butcher and Hook batted very well against the pace of Jack Keeble and Dan Oldfield, with both retiring on 32 and 33 respectively.

Valuable contributions by George Senior (19) and an aggressive inning from Stef Gostic (16) saw Town reach an impressive 136-6 off their 20 overs.

In reply Sutton fared well, with Keeble (30 retired) and Oldfield (29) steering them to 105.

Pick of the Spalding bowlers was Harry Decamps (4-15).

Monday then saw a league battle between the two sides at Paradise Field…and Town got off to a disastrous start.

The visitors found themselves toiling on 4-4 with Butcher (3) the only one of the top four to trouble the scorers.

However, a sensible batting display from Josh Lawrence (26) and Senior (24) and also some impressive late hitting by Willis Ingleby helped Town reach a defendable 92-7 off 20 overs.

Keeble (1-7) and Oldfield (2-7) were the pick of the Sutton bowlers.

Sutton made a very good start to their innings with Luke Barnes making 15 and Keeble once again carrying his bat to 30.

But the introduction of Johnathan Manton (3-7) and Ben Shields (1-4) saw the hosts fall 19 runs short at 73 all out.

  • Spalding Town under-9s shared a dramatic draw with Burghley Park on Sunday morning.

Skipper for the day Harry Birch won the toss and elected to bat first, as Town reached 100-5 off their 16 overs with James Laud top scoring with eight.

In reply Burghley batted very well despite Birch taking three wickets and tied the scores with four balls left, before young Jimmy Laud bowled four brilliant dot balls to see the match tied.

Coach Jimmy Clarke said: “The youngsters have all been putting in so much hard work in training on Thursday nights and it has really paid off.”
