Town’s legion hits grand total

The Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal is thousands of pounds better off thanks to the generosity of the people of Holbeach.

Treasurer of the British Legion’s branch in the town, Alan Sheppard, told a meeting last week that at least £15,435 had been raised during 2018.

This represented the sum donated in collection boxes at shops and other locations around Holbeach in the weeks running up to Remembrance Day in November, as well as by other initiatives such as a clay pigeon shooting day in September.

“We are so grateful for the generous donations of those in and around Holbeach,” Alan said.

“This year’s total is higher than last, and we want to say a big thank you to all those who gave any amount, large or small.

“In addition, I wish to thank the staff at Tesco, the Co-op and other retailers who helped us raised such a wonderful amount.”
