Town newsagents to close next month

One of Holbeach’s newsagents is set to close next month.

McColl’s, on High Street, will shut up shop in September.

A McColl’s Retail Group spokesman said: “Having explored all options, regretfully we have taken the difficult decision to cease trading at the McColl’s store on the High Street in Holbeach. The store’s last day of trading will be Friday, September 13.

“We are saddened to no longer be operating the store and our priority has been to support all affected colleagues.”

The spokesman said the company couldn’t say how many other of its shops will be closed nationally.

Holbeach shop Laddies will open from 5am from September to provide early-morning news and paper deliveries.

The McColl’s store was in the news in 2017 when it was robbed at knifepoint by a group of masked teenagers.
