Town lose in league and cup

Spalding Town fell to a heavy nine wicket defeat at Sleaford on Saturday before exiting the National Cup the following day.
The visitors elected to bat on winning the toss but struggled to 116 all out in the 44th over.
Mitch Freeman (20), Ben Smith (20), Harry Birch (13) and Brandon Andrews (10) were the only players to reach double figures.
Birch had Aayush Patel (22) caught by William Gardner but Sleaford romped to the total in just 17 overs, Henry Cooper unbeaten on 59 from 51 balls and Connor Harbron 39 not out.
Town were better the following day at home in the Knockout Cup to Great Witchingham. Again they won the toss and batted but this time an opening partnership of 67 gave them a foundation, Jon Manton (26) the first to fall.
Fellow opener Freeman hit a fine 52 from just 44 balls though before Divyeash Vaseeharan’s 43 helped his side up to 219 for 8 from the 40 overs.
It wasn’t enough largely due to a brilliant innings from Witchinham opener Yaseen Vali whose 113 not out to guided his side to a four-wicket win with seven balls to spare.
For Town, George Morris claimed 2 for 52, Barnaby Dring 1 for 25 and Freeman 1 for 26.
