Town centre pub closes its doors

A town centre pub has closed its doors to customers as its owners restructure operations.

The Pied Calf is owned by Suffolk-based Greene King which is selling around 20 of its 2,500-strong portfolio.

The pub operator announced plans to shake up its estate in March.

It has evaluated its entire portfolio of some 2,500 pubs and flagged around 300 sites which would be better as a franchise.

The company said money raised from the disposals would be ploughed into its core estate.

This week it was reported that Greene King is looking to sell both pubs and hotels as part of the review. It is also looking to create further franchise opportunities.

The properties for sale are being marketed with Savills.

A spokesman for Greene King said: “Following a period of team member consultation, we can confirm that the Pied Calf has now closed.

“We are grateful to everyone who has supported the Pied Calf over the years, and we look forward to welcoming them into our other pubs in the local area soon.”

The statement added that the company has worked with staff to find alternative roles at its other pubs where the move was viable.
