Top versus bottom in billiards league

It was top versus bottom this week in the Spalding and District Billiards league, with Donington B extending their position at the top.

They now lead by eight points, they had another maximum 7-0 win against Services.

Wins came from Mick Pearl, Neil Reynolds and Neil Burton, against Nigel Cherry, Phil Spencer and Vince Fitter. Reynolds knocking in 39 and 38 breaks along the way.

Second-placed Holbeach B slipped down to third after losing 7-0 away to Gosberton.

Marcus Pell (o40), certainly had the rub of the green against Denis Hix (r65) winning 200-165, Pell scoring the highest break of the night with a 34.

Des Forbes (r75) won only his second game of the season against Andy Spearman (r65) 200-184.

Wrapping up a good night for Gosberton was Shane White (o25) who beat Neil Harvey (r25) 200-123.

Moving up a place to second was Broadway, who won 5-2 away at Donington.

Tony Scully (r40) got Donington off to a good start by winning 200-177 against Andy Wheatley (r05) but Roxton Chapman (o265) for Broadway gave another master class performance, with a 200-84 win against Ben Wrigglesworth (r05). Chapman making breaks of 107, 78, 62, 41 and an unfinished 73.

Steve Singh (o40) won by a margin of 13 against Jim Thompson (r65) to give Broadway the edge.

A mid table position is held by Pyramid B despite losing 4-3 at Holbeach A. Jason Rose (r05) and John Dawson (r55) won the first two games for Holbeach against Maurice Phillipson (r75) and Phil Cooke (r95).

The clash of the captains saw Pyramid’s Darrell Read (r25) getting the aggregate point with a 100 point win against Ben Harding (o10).

Consti had a 5-2 win away to Pyramid A, their winners were Alan Hansard and Stewart Davies beating John Clapton and John Twell respectively.

Oli Player (r35) took the two points for Pyramid with a ten-point win against John Bellerby (r105).
