Top spot for Taylor in tight Tydd Gote Angling Club meet

It was nip and tuck at Tydd Gote Angling Club’s Wednesday Open at Main Road with John Taylor’s 8lb 8oz just edging out Archie Greenwood with 8lb 3oz.

Taylor made the stronger start feeding hemp over groundbait on his longer 11m line and pinkie short at 6m and ending up with 112 mostly roach for his top weight.

But Greenwood pushed him all the way and was just a fish shy come the end. Pete Emery came in third with 7lb 2oz.

What a difference a few days make though, as the regulars for the Sunday Club match at Main Road were met with bank to bank floating weed over much of the match length.

It was only Darren Williams’ sterling work with the boom that eventually saw the weed held back enough to present a bait.

Andrew Kilby, who else, was the only one to find some better fish and take the win with a miserly 2lb 5oz with Pete Emery (1lb 4oz) and Paul Spriggs (15oz) both resorting to fishing shallow for bleak.

Dave Simmonds was fourth with a very early but solitary rudd of 8oz.
