Top effort from Tigers but unbeaten run ends

Holbeach United’s unbeaten run was ended by Thurlow Nunn Division One North leaders Haverhill Rovers on Saturday.

The Tigers hadn’t lost in the league since October, though hadn’t played since beating Pinchbeck United 4-0 on Boxing Day.
Haverhill have also not lost since October, their only defeat of the season, and sit 14 points clear at the top of the division.
And they proved too strong for Chris Carter’s Tigers at Carter’s Park though Holbeach did provide a stern challenge throughout.
Shaun Avis gave Haverhill an early lead, slamming home after a miscued clearance in the third minute.
It was a competitive battle between the sides with Holbeach going close on a couple of occasions before the lead was doubled on 72 minutes.
Again it was Avis who netted after a ball in from Brandon Mckay.
Holbeach travel to AFC Sudbury on Saturday.
They’re eighth in the table, eight points off the final play-off place.
The club have also signed Pat Kacirek from Pinchbeck United. He made his debut against Haverhill.

Tigers: Simpson, Greenacre, Oldham, Roberts, Carter, Compton, Hamilton, Thorne, Kacirek, Ling, Cook. Subs: Wright, Keeble, Millinson, Ibeneme, Oakley, Williams.
